Our maternal grandfather was J. G. Witherspoon (James Hamilton Gordon Witherspoon). He married Elizabeth Bres Marable our maternal grandmother on Oct. 27, 1907 which was also J.G.'s sister Rosa Adela's birthday.

Lena Gilbert Williams Marable - third wife of Dr. George J.B. Marable.  I have a copy of their marriage bond and license, June 28, 1887, Morehouse Parish, LA.  She is buried in Logtown Cemetery, Logtown, Ouachita Parish, LA.

I believe her full name was Mary Isolene Gilbert Williams Marable.  Her first husband was John Wilton Williams.

Mary Medora "Dora" Lucas Witherspoon, second wife of Rev. James Hamilton Witherspoon.  Dora was our Maternal Great Grandmother and mother of James Gordon Witherspoon and Rosa Adela Witherspoon.  They had two children:

Rev. James Hamilton Witherspoon's parents were David (from N. Carolina--born 1758) and Elizabeth Gordon Witherspoon.  They married in Kings Mountain, PA on June 16, 1791. Her father was Revolutionary War Captain George Gordon.

 Captain David Witherspoon also fought in the Revolutionary War. He was in the battle of Kings Mountain. David's father was John Witherspoon (great grandfather of J.G. Witherspoon--my grandfather). John died September 1778.  John was a lateral descendant (cousin) of Rev. John Witherspoon, President of Princeton University and a signer of the Declaration of Independence.  David Witherspoon also had a brother John who died in 1760.  John was also in the battle of King's Mountain.
